What is the Community Training Home I (CTH I)?The CTH I program is a specialized community based residential option sponsored by the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special and Needs and administered by the Richland/Lexington Disabilities and Special Needs Board. This program is ideal for people who desire a home-like environment. A CTH I is a private home in which a person with a developmental or related disability lives with a trained caregiver and the caregiver's family. The caregivers must successfully complete a training program, and their homes undergo health and safety inspections. Living in a CTH I provides a more one-on-one habilitation opportunity for the consumer. The caregiver provides training as identified in the consumer's residential habilitation plan. Being a CTH I Caregiver is a rewarding and challenging experience for people who desire to contribute positively to another person's growth and development. CTH I Caregivers fill many roles: caretaker, teacher, friend, mentor - and many more. They are involved in teaching and providing training to people with developmental disabilities to assist them in becoming more independent. CTH I homes may be certified/licensed for a person to reside with the family on a permanent basis or in a Respite home situation. Respite caregivers provide temporary care to people residing in the permanent CTH I homes, so that CTH I Caregivers can take a break, go on vacation or pursue personal interests. |
